I can't believe Audie's been gone from us 40 years. My heart was broken when he died and it still is. Such a wonderful and beautiful young man. No one can replace him in my heart. I have all his films and what a consolation it is to be able to see him alive and fascinating in all his ways. I pray for him always and remember him every day. God rest your heroic, selfless soul, dearest Audie. Added: June 16, 2011

I became aware of Audie Murphy through my love of watching westerns. I was impresssed by his honesty and decency which came through in movie after movie. He was unlike a typical hollywood movie star, he was the "decent man" next door, not big in stature but solid and reliable. Along with Randolph Scott and John Wayn, Audie Murphy was my favourite cowboy to watch. Added: June 15, 2011

Dear Audie Murphy, You lived among us long ago And did the best you could. You gave us more than you’ll ever know; Perhaps more than we ever would. Life was not an easy fare; Struggle was part of your terrain. You certainly endured more than your share— Of poverty, hunger, war and pain. True, there were times of deep despair, But you carried on with love and great care. You carried on through it all, While helping others in your wake. Ready to lay down your life if That was the call – The call so many don’t dare to take. It’s not the perfect life that we admire. The lives that touch our hearts are the Ones that inspire. You touched our hearts that is clear. You showed us courage in face of fear. You took the risks and paid so dear. The cost was great, that is true, But you did your best to see it through. Perhaps that is why we turn to you -- To find the strength that we require To face our country’s troubles that appear so dire. You have our admiration – A member of the greatest generation; Thank you for your inspiration To help us preserve and protect our mighty but ailing nation. I have found this to be a wonderful website with all the information you could want to get started on Audie L. Murphy. I am doing a program on his birthday 6/20/2011 for my library. I have found so much right here. I think the USA should always remember Audie for the lesson he taught on patriotism. Thank you for not letting him slip into obscurity.
