Audie was a very important part of my childhood. I saw his many movies at the Fox Theater Saturday afternoons. My mother told me about his war record and when TO HELL AND BACK was released, I was amazed. I wrote him a letter and he answered! Not just a form letter, but a personal letter. Through the years of my childhood, I wrote him many letters and he answered every one. When his plane went down, it was like loosing a family member. He was very special to me.

I noticed that your list of subsets at the top of this page did not include honorary memberships in various organizations. I am sure that the number is astronomical, but I did want to mention that I ran across the paperwork initiating him into the Fort Hays State University (then Fort Hays Kansas State College) Veterans Club, a campus organization that I presided over. He had been initiated into the Vet's Club long before I was there, but the paperwork was in the archives. I wanted to be sure that you had a notation on this.

I learned about Mr. Murphy some years ago, i was looking through the Gueniss Book and seen him. I had read about him being the most decorated solider and from that dat on, I have remembered his name. I tell everyone of my friends and family members about what I had found. Sometimes I make it a trivia question, to see who else might know about such an extrodenary man, and to this day I have yet to find someone who knows. I think that more people need to know what a true Solider he was. Thanks for having this website because I will now be able to show my kids and grandkids about the wonderful Solider I found by accident,

Remembering how you lived, remembering how you died.
Remembering the films you made and the joy and entertainment I had watching you.
