i first learned of Audie when my dad and i hear his death on the radio and i asked my dad, a navy Korean War veteran, who he was. i later watched the movie, To Hell And Back, and all the western he made. He was one great man and so young to go through all he went through. thank you for keeping his memory alive. :)

Lt. Audie Murphy was one of a list of officers that I would consider it an honor to follow into combat, and another is mentioned here also. Gen. Franks, STRENGTH AND HONOR SIR!

Your website is fantastic. I did not realize that Audie Murphy's father and mother were gone by the time he reached 16. He had a built-in excuse for not going to war. He was the provider, but that didn't stop him. What determination he had. How ironic it was that his first captain tried to keep him from the fighting, fearing he was so short.

I'm presently trying to find out if a certain person, named Dr. Marvin L. Cox of Belleville and born in St. Louis, was awarded a purple heart. He died in 2009. He showed someone 2 purple hearts, claiming they were awarded to him. The closest I can find on the purple heart list from the 'net is one Marion Cox.

Thank You, Chris Niemann (chris.niemann@swic.edu)
