My dad was drafted into the Army when he was a freshman at Syracuse University, majoring inn journalism. He was in Patton's Third Army and landed at Omaha Beach, Normandy. I'll never forget his stories about the War and Audie Murphy. When he passed away, we found a diary that we never knew existed. I'm a history teacher and every year I tell my students about my dad's experiences fighting to preserve our freedom and about Audie Murphy. ' Most kids' heroes these days are basketball, baseball and football stars or rock stars. They take our freedom for granted and don't know about the brave heroes who fought to make a better life for future generations. Audie Murphy's story should be part of every U.S history curriculum.
