Murphy was one of my biggest heroes when I was growing up. I cut my teeth on WW II history, and have studied most of the major battles fought therein. I am a child of WW II, born in October, 1942.

I am a retired deputy sheriff. I was raised in TX. Audie is my hero, and one of my favorite actors, I have many of his movies. I agree he should never be forgotten for his contributions to this country. My Dad was an army physician, he was stationed stateside at the Percy Jones Hospital in MI. I was born there. When I was 6 months old we moved back to NE TX. I am proud to be a Texan, and proud to love and appreciate Audie L Murphy.

Audie Murphy is my hero. The reasons are this: he came from a very deprived background; as a teenager he put himself into the middle of the momentous world event of WWII; risked life and limb repeatedly in heroic acts in that storm; when the war ended and he was still just 20 and covered with medals he lived a good life, working to provide assistance for Vietnam War veterans. The fact is that this was an unpopular war and the vets were treated badly. Other movie stars of the time, who had not fought in any war, made money advertising cigarettes and alcohol. Not Audie Murphy. A great example of how to live a good life regardless of your origins. A true American hero.
