My father, a WWII Navy veteran, and I would watch war films together on Sunday mornings. After watching a John Wayne movie, I commented that the movie was great but my father commented that I should read a story about a real hero, written by a real hero .. Audie Murphy. From that day on I could only enjoy true stories about our fighting men. I happened to find this guestbook and was struck by the deeds by a 19 year old boy as compared to a number of football players able to protest against the national anthem. Audie was the true hero, a tangible reminder of the men and women who gave their lives in the defense of their country so malcontents can moan about their inequities in life. May we never forget the gift of the freedom given us by the few. Added: September 15, 2016

My current home city, Menifee, California, where Audie Murphy had a country home in the area called Quail Valley, now has a new residential community called "Audie Murphy Ranch." People know and remember him here now and will in the future. I also was on a Viking River cruise along the Rhine River that had a special WWII well guided tour of the Little Battle of the Buldge area. It featured us getting off the bus to visit the exact site where Audie made his "last man stand" to cover his troopers make a temporary retreat. They waited for reinforcements to came to finally push the Natzi army back across the a Neumegan (sp?) Bridge into Germany - the last crossing remaining over the Rhine. Also remember William Stephenson - The Man called Intrepid. Enjoy Our Freedom Protect Our Peace Victory Over Our Enemies Let Us Use Our Intelligence

Audie Murphy was an amazing individual. I wish he could of had the medical help there is today for ptsd. It is very ironic, that after surviving so many encounters during the war he dies in a plane crash. I am 58 years old and Audie Murphy was my hero when I was a growing up and he will always be a very, very special person to me. I doubt if there will ever be another person with the intestinal fortitude and raw courage that he exhibited so many times. May he rest in peace. Added: September 7, 2016

We have just got back from Washington D.. and New York after a wonderful holiday. I made a point of visiting Audie Murphy's grave just opposite the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and was so impressed with this beautiful setting that is Arlington. I have always been an avid fan of Audie Murphy and Lee Marvin so this visit was an important part of my vacation. Murphy was an American real life hero and such an important person in World War 11 and I believe this additional honor is long overdue, Added: September 7, 2016
