I HAD OCCASION TO MEET AUDIE MURPHY IN 1959 AT BOSCOMANTICO ARMY AIRFIELD NEAR VERONA, ITALY.
HE WAS THERE AS PART OF A TOUR OF ITALY TO VISIT SOME OF THE BATTLE SITES. MY DAD WAS AN ARMY HELICOPTER PILOT ASSIGNED TO FLY HIM AROUND FOR SEVERAL DAYS. I HAVE ONE PICTURE WITH AUDIE AND MYSELF. I WAS ABOUT 11 YEARS OLD.

Admin reply: Thank you for your message George. The AMRF would be thrilled to see your photo and hear more about it. I have sent you a private email. We appreciate your message Again, thank you!

Thank you for keeping his memory alive. He was an incredible man.

I'm 56 and remember him well. I'm sorry that the later generations cannot say the same.

Again, thanks.

Although I am a member, l wish to say that i only visited Arlington once and that was to visit Audie's gravesite and JFK'S. While walking to JFK's though I spotted a stone with the name of Burba. I walked over and saw it was the grave of General Edwin Burba, our CG in the 2nd Armored Dv. when we deployed from Fort Hood to Germany in 1963. He, too, was killed in a plane crash.

Admin reply: Hell on Wheels, John! I too was a member of 2AD but I came a little after you (1986-1990). I well remember various activities at Burba Gym to include deploying my soldiers to Kuwait and Saudi Arabia for the Gulf War and also to Germany for Reforger exercises. I had no idea General Burba was the victim of a plane crash. Thank you for posting this. Thank you for your service too.
