I am a long time fan of Audie Murphy. I grew up watching westerns and war films with my three older and three younger brothers. I am now fifty four years old and have a collection of DVD's that include many of Audie's films including the one that I just finished watching "To Hell and Back". Watching the film prompted me to read up on him and brought me to this site. I pity those who never had the privilege of knowing this amazing hero and actor. He's someone that I wish I had known personally. Added: May 25, 2011

A young girl, I attended the movies every Saturday afternoon and when older, I went in the evenings and on weekends. I had a terrible crush on Audie so went to all of his movies. I never knew how he died until today because I was busy raising a family, working, etc., and didn't listen to the radio, TV or such so never heard about him passing away until now. Today I am watching one of his older movies - "Column South", made in the 50's and enjoying it as much as the first time I saw it. I admired him as a war hero and my favorite movie of course was "To Hell and Back." I just wish I had met him and when I borrowed my neighbour's computer, I looke up the website which was all about him, at least what has been found out about him and very sad to hear he how he died. I am sure he is with his Maker. Perhaps you could tell me if he was flying that plane or who was? Thanks for the information. I always wondered what happened to him - reason for lookin him up on internet. Thanks for the info. Mr. Murphy was a hero that lived in a generation that the youth of that time had a person to look up to. He was a brave American. I wish we had more people like him today. God Bless America.
