As a mother with a son I can't imagine sending my 16 year old son to war .As a modern nurse I am appalled at the ongoing suffering of many soldiers post war from nightmares as a result of having to see & do things unmaginable & abhorrent .My uncles all returned from WW11 having fought in Papua New Guinea & Borneo & were badly affected .I loved seeing Audie Murphy on screen. He has a look in his eyes that people of great courage possess.I have just finished watching his movie "Walk the Proud Land"and wanted to know more about him .I am very moved looking at his list of medals & then his young face -only 20 .He was a great protector of what he believed & the men he fought with .He reminds me of an Australian WWI Victoria Cross recipiant Albert Jacka .
May God bless them both & protect the flower of our youth from further sacrifice .

Audie Murphy returned to Germany to make a movie, Return To The Third Division". Myself and Merle Spicer (deceased),had the Military Police honor of Guarding and Protecting him while this movie making in Kitzingen, Germany. I have a photograph of the three of us while Audie said to us, "make it look like you're apprehending me". We did so by lifting him off the ground partially shown in the photo. He was a great individual and I do have more photographs of the movie occasion. I salute Audie Murphy.....

There are times when I feel like we owe Audie Murphy and all of our veterans an apology for not doing a better job in protecting our freedoms and our country here on the homefront. He and all of our vets sacrificed so much for America. I'm sorry I took so much for granted. My prayers are with him, his family and all U.S. veterans. Rest in peace, Audie Murphy and thank you for your courage and inspiration.

I have admired Audy Murphy since a young boy when I first watched a movie depicting his WW2 actions. Lately I have been enjoying his western films and realizing the strong character he was.

Audie Murphy was a hero of mine growing up, both, in film but most in service to his country and mine. He is a rare breed and understood what "to solemnly swear to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States". His heroism is far above the call of Duty and should have been awarded The Congressional Medal of Honor more than once. He was the biggest short hero this country will ever know. A wonderful man and TRULY GREAT AMERICAN.
