I served in the U.S. Army 1955-1958 and was stationed at
Fort Lewis during the filming of "To Hell and Back. We
also had a detachment in Yakima, Washington where many of
the action seens were filmed. Each time I view the movie,
and along with all my other Murphy westerns, I recall those days and how proud I was to have served my country.
Audie L. Murphy was a very special person and a great
American hero and icon.

Friend, actor, hero. So many names for such a special man...a favorite of mine for many, many years. Today my grandchildren watch To Hell and Back all the time. This year we went to Washington, DC and the Arlington Cemetery. That was the grave my 13 year old grandson couldn't wait to see. He took pictures for his 7 year old brother who loves Audie L. Murphy and has since he was 4 years old. He knows the movie by heart. It saddens me to know so many of the younger generation will never know the heroic part Audie played in WWII. We need to keep history alive, and the men and women who gave their lives, for this country we take for granted. Their memories need to remain alive from generation to generation.

As a young boy growing up in a military family Audie Murphy was my favorite movie star. It wasn't until years later that my father told me about Audie's heroic actions in WWII. I think this wesite is a fitting tribute to one of this countrie's golden sons.

I live north of Paris,Texas about 12 miles and always admired the person of Audie . I always enjoyed his western movies. His contribution to his country is surpassed by no one. I have always admired him and was sadened by his death. Farmersville,Tx. where he grew up is about 60 miles from where I live and when I travel through Greenville,Tx. I am reminded of him when I see the museum built to honor him. He will always be in my memory as a real hero and every american should know what he did for their country during WW11.
