When asked why he killed all those Germans, Audie Murphy replied "because they were killing my friends". I love it. :!cool:

As a young man I watched all of Murphy's movies, and still do. It wasn't until I became a member of the military that I learned of his exemplary duty. This man will be sorely missed.

I WAS JUST WATCHING THE MOVIE, TO HELL AND BACK, I STARTED THINKING ABOUT MY DAD AS AN ARMY SOLDER, HE ALWAYS SPOKE OF MR. MURPHY. MY DAD WAS ONE OF THE ORIGINAL "MERRIAL'S MURADERS". THEY MADE A MOVIE ABOUT THESE MEN. THANK YOU FOR THE MEMORIAL ON MR. MURPHY.

My father was stationed in Ft. Lewis in Washington State in the US Army during the time the movie "To Hell And Back" was filmed and he appeared as an 'extra' and was one of the many Nazis in the movie. In the 1970's when I would watch the movie with him, the movie ran over 2 hrs. In that version, when Murphy goes into the house at Anzio, he kicks the door in and shoots two sniper nazi soldiers. My dad was one of them. In the past few years, I've seen a different take on that scene. Murphy throws a grenade into the room where the Nazi snipers are and goes in after the blast to find them dead. The film now only runs 106 minutes. Wish I could find the longer version. My dad loved being in that movie. I've been to Arlington twice and always look for Audie Murphy's grave.
