My first movie star crush was Audie Murphy. What's changed? Nothing except that now I am 70 and still hold him in the highest regard. He is undoubtedly the reason I have such a passion to support military men and women. I believe he is the one "star" that did not disappoint.

Audie is also the personification of what we know now is an "undiagnosed/untreated case" of PTSD. As one who lived through the Vietnam era and now Afghanistan and Iraq, I have worked with and to support military suffering from PTSD and whose sacrifice is carried forward long after their return.

God Bless Audie Murphy and the example he's been to our nation and to service men and women for decades.

I have always deeply admired Audie Murphy for his character from a youth on... Few could ever live up to the high expectations he set for himself. A true American hero. He was also my FAVORITE actor. My grandson who is entering the Marines soon, was very impressed with what I related to him about this great man who he had no knowledge of. I will continue to pass the word. We lost him all too soon...

I first became interested in Audie Murphy after seeing the movie "To Hell and Back." Knowing it was a true story, I was impressed by the level of responsibility felt by what I would these days call "a kid." I have since seen that movie no less than 10 times; every time I catch it on cable I simply must watch it. I so regret that Audie Murphy died at such a young age because I would have loved to have heard him speak about his life. Thank you for this wonderful website which is very informative and entertaining. I believe in every great while there is a person who comes along which is of such great influence and makes such an impression that we know we will never see another one like him. To me Audie Murphy is one of those people.

I've been an admirer nearly all my life. I was in the Submarine Service 1959 to 1965. Audie was an inspiration and likely influenced me to serve my country. I wish he had lived a full life as many of us have.

seeing Audie in the movies I always detected a sense that this was a really nice guy. He really didn't seem to fit the classic movie star looks and acting style but it must have been his lifestyle and heroics that attracted people to him. I remember seeing a Western with Jimmy Stewart and Audie together. I think they played brothers. Jimmy carried an accordian around in this movie. My mom knew of him and often spoke of him. After I learned about his war record I was really impressed. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. As a Christian I have always valued humility and Audie, I am lead to believe, was a man with great humility in spite of his great achievements. I feel sad that more people are not made aware of this Great American Icon whom we really do need to treasure. His picture should be on a coin or our paper money as a reminder.
