Grew up watching Audie Murphy on the silver screen and learned he was a huge war hero. Saw "To Hell and Back" when I was young. Later I read of his struggle with what I will call severe PTSD, and was sad to hear of his untimely death in about 1971. I've read many books on WWII combat experiences, some personal accounts and finally got around to reading "to Hell and Back". I must say that Audie Murpy's telling of his out story is the most humble of anything I've read on WWII. A powerful and graphic story - it is amazing he survived the war! Thank you Audie Murphy, for your uncommon courage, valor and sacrifices to keep America safe and that allowed me to grow up in a free society! I first came to know of Audie Murphy from watching western movies with my dad, when I was a wee boy. I'm 29 now and still love to watch them. He was one of the best along with the likes of the Duke, Randolf Scott..
My dad told me he was a Great War hero, but I didn't realise he was Americas most decorated infantryman of wwll.
At such a young age to go through what he did, and survive is amazing.. I can only imagine what his eyes had seen.
I will always cherish the enjoyment he gave my family through his movies. Never forgotten always in our hearts.
God bless Audie Murphy, and God bless America.
