Often I walk in the hallway of building 1001, HQ III Corps building, 2nd floor, West wing, Fort Hood, Texas and view the photos of this great hero. I also view the display case with some of his personal items including combat gear, badges, metals and other uniform items. A hand painted picture of him hangs above his display in the main corridor of this legendary Tank CORPS HQ. He is celebrated as a great hero at "The Great Place", Fort Hood, Texas. It is a Soldiers honor to be selected as a member of the SAM Club. I was in San Antonio a few weeks ago in the old Gunther Hotel and was able to view photos of him marching on horseback in front of this Hotel and the Old Majestic Theater. What a great man, a great American Hero and role model for our Soldiers in service to this nation. GOD bless Sergeant Audie Murphy.

To honor the beloved memory of most-distinguished World War II veteran AUDIE LEON MURPHY, existing and future generations of Americans should preserve -- and perpetuate -- BOTH his patriotism AND his heritage.

As the years, and decades, progress while personal and collective memories gradually fade and eventually vanish with old-age and death, let us ETERNALLY PRESERVE the legacies of AUDIE LEON MURPHY and ALL World War II veterans in every branch-of-service: Army, U.S. Army Air Corps, Air Force, Navy, and U.S. Maritime Service.

I was born in 1949 and Audie Murphy was one of my heroes. His actions in WWII were they stuff of Hollywood with the difference being they were real. I honestly can't understand why nobody's made a remake of "To hell and Back" Gives me goosebumps just thinking about what he did. It would be a sin to forget any of "the greatest generation", but unthinkable to lose Sgt. Murphy's story. Let's not let it happen.
