Audie Murphy was my early Hero! While watching To Hell and Back aimed to enlist in USA. After high school graduation did so. Assigned to service in Vietnam in 1967. What a trooper! Performed duty above all expectations! Received 33 awards/ medals due a war veteran. Medal of Honor is just not received, one has to face the enemy and take care of right. Respectfully, SP4 R.D. I just returned from a vacation in Europe which included the Alsace region of France where the American and French armies battled the Germans in the Colmar Pocket. Here Audie Murphy made his famous one man stand against an armored attack force and the rest is history. To keep things in perspective this was one incident in the 33 months that his unit was in combat so many of the things Lt Murphy and his comrades experienced are lost in time. He was 19 while in Colmar. Amazing what a kid from Texas can do. He is still considered a hero to the people living there. Added: May 18, 2016

I'm just starting to watch the film "Sierra" and I was immediately struck by how young Audie Murphy looks. About 19, although actually about 25 when it was made. Then I discovered that he received the Medal Of Honour for his valour at the age of 19. A remarkable young man. As someone in their sixties who has never been expected to risk my life for my country, I feel so immensely proud of this young man. His baby face crystallises the fact that so much youth is wasted by conflict and brings a dimension to his achievement which brings tears to my eyes. I've seen some of his films before, but his youth in this production really hit me. This Memorial is an excellent concept. Congratulations. Norman Duncan Added: May 17, 2016

As a child, I watched many of Audie Murphy's movies. It is fair to say that he was my childhood "hero" (a term that is abused in colloquial language). I was excited by the level of intensity and commitment he exhibited. Only after he had died did I discover that he was one of the US's most decorated soldiers. Not knowing about his wartime exploits is understandable because I am not an American, but it is disappointing that in his own country he did not receive the level of recognition he truly deserved.
