THe service that Audie Murphy afforded our country is without a doubt the most courageous form of patriotism. I was fortunate enough to visit his gravesite in Arlington NAtional Cemetery a few months after his death.
It was a moving experience for me. Four years later, we buried my father in Arlington National Cemetery. My father served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and retired with 21 years of service. He died at age 51 from lung cancer. I salute all veterans for their unselfish service to our country.

I am in my 50s and have a father in his 80s who served in the Navy in the korean war and have been aware of pride of our service men and women.I watch old movies with Mr Murphy and am aware of his service to our country and his pride in america. I too believe that our heros are a disapearing breed. I hope we as a country can keep this alive for our future children and hopefully heroes.

I hope this is wrong but fear it is not. As our socity becomes ever more an entitlement society, our history will become less and less important. That is very sad.

I have always had the highest regard for Audie Murphy and maybe a bit of a crush too. To have experienced what he went through at such a young age and to remain a humble fellow Texan fills me with pride.
