After a conversation over Christmas with my son about war heroes, I decided to check the internet for more information on Audie Murphy to show him. During my childhood he was very famous for his bravery and films.

Love his movies and must of had a lot of courage and sounded like a man everyone should try to emulate to be more like especially these days. Would have loved to have known him . Wish he was still around and making movies. :D

I happened to catch a glimpse of one of Audie’s movies the other day while in a store with a TV on. I grew up watching his movies and was told some about him by my dad who really respected him. My dad’s battalion followed the same path for North Africa to France as Audie’s unit. He was in the 83rd CMB and they were attached to the 3rd Infantry Division along the way somewhere.

It wasn’t until the internet that I learned the life story of Audie Murphy. I remember when he died in the plane crash, but didn’t know much about him other than limited knowledge of his Army and movie career.

I’m glad this site exists because the last of the Greatest Generation, as Tom Brokaw called them, is fading fast and the Boomers that know about him will be fading soon. Maybe the younger generations will be able to learn of this American Hero because of the fact that his memory is being kept alive by this website.

I was in the color guard, standing behind Audie when he received his medal of honor in the movie To Hekk And Back. I remember that we stood there for approx 5 hours and had approx 20 seconds on the screen. I believe that i would be in pictures #106-107-108 and #237. Is there someway to download these to my computer?

I am 52 years old and have always been interested in war hero type movies. Most I have seen are hollywood impressions of heros from war time, however Mr Murphy was the real deal! Keep up the good work with the Memorial, its great!!!
