Just saw the to hell and back movie for the upteenth time. and as always it moved me so much emotionally. I for one will never forget Audie and all that he did in ww11. I remember when I heard that he was killed in an airplane crash in Virginia. I could not believe it. For someone to have gone what he went through in combat only to die in a stupid plane crash. He will always be in my mind till the day i die. Audie I salute you.

I remember watching everything that Audie ever did. As a young boy he was and still is my hero and he should be remembered always for all his contributions to WWII. He put himself in harms way many many times for other men and people should realize that the word hero is most times being spoken at a funeral, and usually starts with "With total disregard for his own life....". He is sorely missed by MY generation. :!sadsmile:

I think I am probably one of the first generations to not know the name Audie Murphy. I was talking with a co-work who was in Vietnam and he mentioned the name. What a shame after reading his biography sounds like a man of character. Thanks for the web-site

The amount of prolonged danger and sheer terror endured by Mr Murphy and the rest of the gentlemen of this era, in my opinion, was never before and will probably never again be equalled. The fears they faced for so long, and the fact that the survivors were able to return and create an even greater nation is in itself a testament as to why they have often been referred to as "The Greatest Generation." Let us never forget the willingness of so many to put their lives and livelyhoods on hold and make the sarafices they did in order to ensure the freedoms of people and places they never knew or had never been. "Greatest" is a a modest description at best. Many thanks to those such as the creators of this site for giving the time to keeping these men and the accounts of their lives alive.
