Comment:
The amount of prolonged danger and sheer terror endured by Mr Murphy and the rest of the gentlemen of this era, in my opinion, was never before and will probably never again be equalled. The fears they faced for so long, and the fact that the survivors were able to return and create an even greater nation is in itself a testament as to why they have often been referred to as "The Greatest Generation." Let us never forget the willingness of so many to put their lives and livelyhoods on hold and make the sarafices they did in order to ensure the freedoms of people and places they never knew or had never been. "Greatest" is a a modest description at best. Many thanks to those such as the creators of this site for giving the time to keeping these men and the accounts of their lives alive. I signed the petition in Honor of my Father, Robert Lewis Amrine Private first class of the 45th Division 180th Infantry, who passed away in 2005 at 82. He was proud to be a Thunderbird. He passed with two bronze stars and had faught in the first 5 of the 7 major campaigns in the European front. I used to watch Audie with my father when he played himself in To Hell and Back. He desearves this medal. Added: February 11, 2013

I was born 1942.He has always been a hero to me since I was a little boy and saw one of his first movies. To this day, I still watch his movie if I know it's coming on. His movies are a true character of his real life merits. I thank him along with all the other true heroes that made our lives as they are today. Thank GOD for all of them. I think I am probably one of the first generations to not know the name Audie Murphy. I was talking with a co-work who was in Vietnam and he mentioned the name. What a shame after reading his biography sounds like a man of character. Thanks for the web-site
