Started reading about Audie Murphy after watching the film "To Hell and Back" - my only thought - what an incredible man and such an inspiration to young and old alike.

Audie Murphy is America's hero and always will be.

He turned into America's Top Television Star.

I guess you could say he could do it all!

I have always watched him films when they are on TV, he was a very brave man and I would really have liked to shake him by the hand and talked to him as he had a very interesting life.

My partner and I were just watching the film of his life. My partner knew he was the most decorated soldier and we were not quite sure of the reason for the purple heart awarded to soldiers and came across this site. No-one who contributed to the war effort should be forgotten. Best Wishes, Graham.

We all need to remember our heroes, those who sacrificed, and continue to sacrifice, for our freedom. Audie Murphy fought for his family and then for his country, men like this make us feel both humble and proud, no matter our nationality.

My Grandfather and Father both fought for our country, I tried but was medically unfit, to my eternal regret. I was able to give something in youth and social services, but it is not the same.

We should be eternally grateful for the example and practical service of men and women such as Audie and their modern day compatriots.

We will never forget.
