Thank you for this site. I have just discovered Mr. Murphy from watching a couple of his movies. Imagine my surprise to find out his life was greater than anything he played on the big screen....except maybe "To Hell and back", a true hero!
Thank you again,
W.D.

A great man and a great hero! I watched all Mr. Murphy's movies as a child, and read the book 'To Hell and Back! It was excellent. A quiet, shy, gentleman with the heart of a lion!

His courage in speaking out about his battle-related issues, and his work on behalf of veterans receiving acctess to mental health services were ahead of his time.

I visited his grave while in Arlington. May he rest in peace and may his family always be proud of his accomplishments!

Having watched and enjoyed many of Audie's westerns I recently had the pleasure of To Hell and Back. Although the movie depicted his life story I feel it didn't do him justice. Imagine if that extraordinary life was portrayed by an actor of our time and the freedom they are given. Steven Spielberg I imagine would do a tremendous job of directing.
What a wonderful idea to have a memorial website dedicated to such a brave soldier so he can be remembered for the hero he was.

I wasn't born until long after the second world war ended and was but a child during the heyday of western movies; however, Audie Murphy was one of my favorite stars of the genre. I don't know for sure how, but I always knew that he was a war hero in real life and that made his movie characters that much more believable and fanciful to me as a young boy.

I recall hearing about his death in an airplane crash when I was a teenager; it seemed surreal then and still does somehow today. I have some time on my hands these days and am looking into things that hold meaning for me; Audie's life is one of them and I want to find out all I can about him because I think he was a very special person and the world needs to remember him and others like him.

I thank all who are responsible for this memorial to a truly great Man!

My father was a veteran of WW2 and a better man I never knew. When I was a kid I would watch Mr. Murphy's movies and my father would say "that is a real American hero". Truly a great man of the greatest generation.
