Audie recreates the original spirit of the 3ID, July 15, 1918 at the junction of the Marne and Surmelin Rivers: the Rock of the Marne. Few will know, fewer will understand how much so few have given to so many, to paraphrase Winston Churchill. Can anyone estimate the 4th, the 7th, the 30th, the 38th Regiment's contributions to the 20th Century: the American Century. I have always been a fan of Audie Murphy. I remember my Mom taking me to the neighborhood theater to watch "To Hell and Back". She knew my father a fellow Texas veteran, who was in the D-Day invasion and a POW would not go. Too many memories. I remember reading about Audie's death while in college.
