Thank you for the great source of information about Audie Murphy. He rode in a parade in Corsicana TX right after the war. The rodeo producer provided matching white horses for rodeo dignitaries, flag carriers, etc. He ask my mom to change horses with him because she had a better horse. My mom would not do it, for she too, knew she had the better horse!
I used to sponsor my school's trip to DC annually and I always had my kids stop and we honored him at his gravesite. Thank you for the information.

One of my two favorite heroes of WW II, Audie and George Smith Patton Jr. I thank the Lord for both, as well as many other greats of the past. Major Murphy was my hero growing up. Great man all around.
Once worked with one of Patton's Ghost Troopers, Oscar Deines of Ks. When I asked if he seen Patton, he stated that he could of spit in his face twice. Oscar said that Patton inspected the boys before and after they crossed the channel. After being inspected by the General in England, Oscar said that after, the man walked back out in front and stated that 'there wasn't a man among us'.
Oscar was a driver in Shermans, then got his wish to be a cook and get out of the driver's seat. He regretted it. He said he was shelled worse than being out in front. Oscar had five battle stars. Good folk.
It was the people of WW II that drove me to stay and retire out of the mil and work as an uncivil servant.

Been a fan of Audie Murphy for many years and always watch his films. Especially impressed by his war record though which I believe to be more important than film star status even though him being in films has allowed me to see more of him.

It is a sad time when you don't hear the name of the most decorated soldier of World War II mentioned on Memorial Day by the news media or the Commander in Chief. I am honored to be able to speak his name.
