I am 54 years old and barely remember of hearing of Aidie Murphy as a child in the 60's. Through YouTube, the Internet and the old movie stations on cable I have only recently come to know more of him. Today it is not so popular to be known as a war hero because of so many unpopular wars and conflicts that are politically motivated. But during Audie Murphy's time I think there was little question about the necessity of war against tyrannical maniacs like Hitler. It is absolutely amazing to me that such a young man as Audie Murphy was so brave to risk his life time and again in such heroic deeds and to live through it. I am very proud and thankful I have come to know of him. Although many of his movies might be considered to be 'B' westerns, I am enjoying them immensely, my favorite being Destry. I am writing this as I am watching his movie to Hell and Back. He was such a hero and he did it in such a humble and unselfish way. Not too many people like him in the world then or ever. He and his generation were truely the greatest in our nations history. We need to be reminded of the selfless acts they did on behalf of out counrty. I too believe that it is important for our youth to know their history and who among us was considered heros of yesteryear. The veterans of any war should be recognized for what they sacrificed and invested into our country. I am sure there are many men and women that should have been awarded medals for there contributions to our war efforts. Think about the heros of previous wars, most of them were recognized for things that happened on foriegn soil. Not many have been recognized for their efforts on American soil. I am glad that there are folks among us that will take their time to help us all remember the things that honorable men and women did and are doing to keep American's free. Made a visit to Holtzwihr, France, 29NOV11. Spent the day walking and looking. For me it was a very moving experience. The memorial at the edge of the woods was history coming alive. Added: December 28, 2011

Audie was a great American Soldier. I love his movies and his memory lives on by his Valor during his life as a soldier and a person. Great man he is! God Bless Audie Murphy and all American Soldiers who fight for our freedom.
