So many people signing Audie's guestbook were touched by him personally. He stopped at my Jr, High School in Fayetteville, NC just because he saw school children milling around. He talked with us, signed autographs, and smiled alot. Not only is he the greatest hero, he was a fine person who never passed an opportunity to meet and talk with those he did not know. Every Semester in a course I teach at John Jay College of Criminal Justice CUNY devoted to defining the words courage and heroism i show the film TO HELL AND BACK, we read two chapters from the book and the chapter from the Max Hastings' book Warriors which is devoted to Murphy...students understand the awful situation of Murphy having to re-create the experiences of WW2... I end the course with The Red Badge of Courage for obvious reasons Added: April 14, 2012

Audie was a great American and a real Hero. I have read his autobiography To Hell and Back and seen all of his movies. Most of my uncles served their country during WW2 and were my hero's as a little boy growing up in Boston. Their generation was truly one of the greatest next to those who fought to free us from England during the revolutionary war. I find it very disturbing to see that modern history has so distorted what made this country the greatest nation that the world has ever known. To find out that my granddaughter could not tell me who John Paul Jones was in her study of the revolutionary war speaks volumes. No wonder kids today have little or no knowledge of our great American hero's like Audie Murphy. This shows us just how much the PC police and liberals have distorted and watered down our history and the truth about how this great country was founded and why we have the freedom that we enjoy today.
