I love that there are so many other fan's out there! I love that they have a website up honoring Audie Murphy! I discovered his memoir "To Hell and Back" when I was 14 and I've reread it at least 12 times. Audie Murphy is my personal hero. Yes, I'm 25 and I'm a girl, but I've always have highly respected and loved the men who served in ww2. I think they gave the ultimate sacrifice that we can't even begin to imagine. My Grandpa served as a B-17 pilot and he would never talk about it, so I know that this wasn't just a bunch of boys playing soldier, it was real. I just want to thank all of our men and women in uniform, then and now.
And thank you, for this website, it's awesome!

So many people signing Audie's guestbook were touched by him personally. He stopped at my Jr, High School in Fayetteville, NC just because he saw school children milling around. He talked with us, signed autographs, and smiled alot. Not only is he the greatest hero, he was a fine person who never passed an opportunity to meet and talk with those he did not know.

Every Semester in a course I teach at John Jay College of Criminal Justice CUNY devoted to defining the words courage and heroism i show the film TO HELL AND BACK, we read two chapters from the book and the chapter from the Max Hastings' book Warriors which is devoted to Murphy...students understand the awful situation of Murphy having to re-create the experiences of WW2... I end the course with The Red Badge of Courage for obvious reasons

True American hero. The world needs more roll models like him than some of the people our youth idolize today. He was also a great actor. Our family enjoys his movies.
