When the movie, To Hell and Back, came out, my grandfather told my grandmother she was going to go to it. Grandma didn't want to go to that movie but was glad she did. It has become a favorite in our family. Every now and again, I have a student in High School that knows of this movie. It makes my day when we can talk about it.

They don't make guys like Audie Murphy any more. We will miss him

Could not submit this yesterday because I had already written something but I was so disappointed that Audie is behind Ms Criz for the Smithsonian honor - I keep thinking if he cannot capture this award will this country and in particular Texas ever give him that final deserved recognition - as mentioned from converation with the young soldier I met the other day
1. the military remembers him (thank God)
2. the general public - no one knows who he is or was
and that is just not right - he should never be forgotten for all he did God took him at such a young age guess Audie was right when he said - he never felt young! why would he look at all he had to do for his family at a young age I could go on and on - so forgive these constant little blurbs but I wholeheartedly feel not enough has been done to preserve his legacy!

Again a wonderful tribute to Audie and hope we will keep him in our hearts on Monday May 28th Memorial Day the day he passed 41 years ago (mom's bday) - I do hope family will place flowers at his grave. As time goes by I keep hoping that with this new election Audie will finally receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom and later the Texas Medal of Freedom - I want to pass a story to you coming to work there was a young uniform soldier in fatigues and I said do you know Audie Murphy his response-- of course I do we have an Audie Murphy Club but civilians will not know him - this is why we have to bring his name back Encore is doing there part but wish they would show some of his younger pix which I missed - anyway God Bless Audie and my thoghts and prayers will be with you this Monday - how I wish I could go back to when you were alive but someone once said show me a hero and I will show you a tragedy! This young man lived a short life and did so much for family comrades and the nation - think of him every day - he can never be duplicated!

I am retired and living in the sun. I'm sat watching an Audie film, Gunpoint. It's a wonderful sunny evening and watching an Audie film makes me feel right at home. In these times of world crisis its nice to have a hero to watch. He was a fine example of good upright man, such a pity the politians don't act in the same manner.
Best regards
John-Boy

I heard the story of Audie Murphy from my mother when I was a kid. My father was a WW2 combat vet, so maybe I know a little more than most of my generation. I was born in the mid 1960s. In this day & age of 9/11, abuse of power, new world "order" etc. I believe the truth about our past is pertinent. I think every school kid in America should be taught the story of Audie Murphy.

I don't know what the future has in store for us, but I'm sorry to have to say it probably isn't pretty. Thank you for keeping the memory of a true American hero alive.

Peace.

Thank God for people like Audie Murphy that have stood up for our freedoms by putting their own safety on the line.

Don't forget the people in our military.

Navy brat,
