To A Great American Hero! I've enjoyed so many of his films, though never realized what a True hero He Is!! I just wish the politicians in Washington would serve this country so well.

I grew up watching Audie's movies. He was always a great hero for me. He had the most wonderful smile. I remember hearing the report of his death that day in 1971 and feeling how it seemed like such a travesty that he had lived against impossible odds durring the war to then die in a plane crash. I loved his movies and still do to this day.

Every school in America should teach our children what this guy did. It is astounding and inspiring. The only thing like it I have ever heard was what Seargant York did during WWI; but Murphy seems to have routinely done things like this.

When a lad ( I am now 72) going with my step-father and grand dad to Ruidoso New Mexico to the race track where we had several horses entered in the quarter horse races, I met Mr. Murphy many times at the jockey club upstairs in the main building. Dale Robertson and Chill Wills were there but the man of the hour was always Audie Murphy. He was kind and considerate to all who wished to meet him and shake his hand. However he had no time for blowhards and braggerts. He was slight in build and rather short and when he smiled and joked, he grinned all over. He was my hero and I read his book after I met him and was more impressed than ever. I asked my Grand Dad if he really did all those things and he told me "more than you know". Later in my life I joined the US Navy hospital corps attached to the USMC for 22 years. While at the sharp end of the stick in 66-67 RVN, I understood what Dado told me " More than you know". Audie was a great soldier and a great American that paid a great price for his country.
