This is a wonderful website. I've been a fan of Audie Murphy for years and have a number of his films. I never thought I'd see his complete military file. That came as a complete surprise and it says a lot about the man. This death was especially tragic and it was very unfortunate. May he rest in peace.

In 1955 we lived in Tyler, Texas and as people did in those days my family went to the airport to looks at the planes and people. Audie Murphy got off a plane and went to the water fountain and got a drink. I went over and got a drink after him. He was a hero and I will never forget seeing him and that drink of water. God bless Audie Murphy and all of our service men and women.

Audie Murphy was a hero and in this day and age where people look to celebrities and sports heroes, who dishonor the title "hero" in every way, Audie Murphy lived it. It is too bad there are not more people like him today.

May his soul rest is peace.

Thanks Audie for your service and your tireless love of this nation and your commitment to keep us safe.

FYI-The Erath County Historical Commission is submitting an application for the Audie Murphy Rodeo Arena which was located in Stephenville, Texas, in the 1950's and named for the war hero who was a frequent visitor to the area.
