I have enjoyed Mr. Murphy's movies all of my life, yet only recently learned that he had died at such an early age. When I researched his death I learned more details of Mr. Murphy's life. I have always had admiration and respect, even more now that I realize just how challenging a life this man had even before his heroic service. My father was a Purple Heart recipient. I am well aware of the effect war had on him and he was a very strong man. I cannot imagine what it took for Mr. Murphy to accomplish what he did. I do not understand how he could fall under the radar when we hear others speak of American Heroes! So very sad. Such disrespect. Added: March 17, 2017

I've always loved Audie Murphy movies and I believe To Hell and Back was a great one. I was only 9 when he died and my mom always talks so highly of him. She always said there was never a greater man then him. I believe we need to do more to help the men and women who fought for our freedom and still do today. May God bless them all. A most impressive warrior! Visited his grave when last at Arlington. He was humble even in death. Just a plain headstone like all his comrades. My dad used him as an example to us kids stating, Here's a guy that was a for real bad * * * and look how mild mannered he was. Not a loudmouth bullet but a nice guy.
