He was one of my top 10 favorite actor of that era. "To Hell And Back" was my favorite movie since it was based on his actual experience in WWII. As many have said, he was part of the "greatest generation" that the U.S.A. has ever saw. A great American hero.

Audie Murphy and his generation are gone or rapidly disappearing. WWII though savage and cruel often brought out great qualities in the men in the armed forces. Audie was certainly one of them - a natural born leader. Others were willing to follow him. As with many WWI veterans he suffered from post traumatic syndrome. He was surely a great American and a real hero. Rest in peace Audie.

I watched Audies movies ever since I was a kid. They don't make men like Audie anymore! They don't make movies like he was in anymore either!

My father was a WW II wounded warrior and he introduced us to this hero. I have always loved and respected his sacrifices and his contributions to our country.

I loved his movies and had a huge crush on him. My Mom knew his story and shared that with me. On TCM if I get to watch an Audie Murphy movie I count myself lucky.

As a little girl I fell in love with this man from watching his movies. Also though it was always drilled into us 3 kids that this was a "Hero" and to never forget. I promise you I never will forget!

I believe it is very important that today's students learn of Audie Murphy's selflessness and heroism.
Our WW II soldiers were true heroes.

Loved him during his movie days and amazed a bit later of his military history. I was given an autograph about 30 years ago and hope I can find out if real or not.
