Just this week I re-read (again) 'To Hell and Back.' The movie does not do his autobiography justice. His incredible luck spared him in WWII. His name must have been shortened from audacious because he was. He often said he didn't know from where his courage emanated but I opine his Murphy surname gives us a clue. While in Arlington Cemetery I only wanted to visit three grave sites: the Tomb of the Unknown, JFK and Audie Murphy. To this day I pray for the indomitable spirit he is. Throughout the book he rememberd so many of those killed by name. i'm sure there are others who were able to do the same but Audie impressed me with this ability. I cannot say enough about my admiration for him and the character he formed from God knows where. Added: March 27, 2017

Admiration is not a strong enough word. When I was kid I would see him on television and in the newspapers a they would always mention all the medals was awarded but I didn't really have an appreciation for that at the time. Now an adult it's hard to believe that one man could do all that. It's hard enough to receive one much less all of the medals for valor.
