When I first moved from San Diego to Menifee Valley my family purchased a home built on what had been part of Audie Murphy's ranch. From our home we could look north and see two tall telephone poles set about 15 feet apart. These were to mark the finish line of his yearly race from one end of the ranch to the other. I have not corroborated this information that the long time residents of the valley have stated; however, I have also seen a set of identical poles at the western side of the valley. The vast expanse of grass land and arroyos has been purchased by housing developers and the Audie Murphy Ranch area of track homes are being built rapidly. Although the community that the developers are building is a highly family friendly place and the developers have brought the name of Mr. Murphy back into the valley, I would have liked to see some of the area set aside to remind us why he settled here and the beauty that can be a part of our daily lives. Too many of us are riding fast and furious to get somewhere. I hope that we can all slow down to a trot to enjoy the valley that Audie loved.

Today is the day that Audie passed away in 1971. I is a shame that more young men couldn't be like Audie. He loved and respected his family and took care of them. HE fought for his country that he loved and respected. God bless our military.

So many years later I realize that whenever the hard stuff happened, I'd ask myself "What would Audie Murphy do?" I wouldn't always do it, but I would know right then what the right thing to do was. Audie, you've always been an inspiration.

Hard to believe it has been 46 years ago May 28, 1971 that we lost a great soldier. Let us honor all our fallen heros, veterans and those who are still serving today. Thanks Audie for speaking out about the war and PTSD and sharing your thoughts and feelings with us. So many would not talk about it. The poems written from the heart are very precious and stir so much emotion. We will not forget. Let's show our honor & respect this memorial weekend.

Over the decades, Ruby, my mother, and myself, have both loved Audie Murphy's movies. We knew about him being a WWII veteran and hero, however, neither of us realized the vast additional information about him. I was very impressed to learn Audie Murphy was a pioneer in getting the Federal Government to "recognize and improve treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder for all military veterans." I hope you enjoy reading about one of our great military heroes. My love and thanks to all those who are serving or have served in our great U.S. Armed Forces. Sandy Logan
