I was asked to speak to a group of Middle School students awhile back on Veterans Day. I talked to them about choosing heroes. I told them that my heroes at their age were Roy Rogers, Gene Autry and Audie Murphy. Not because Audie was such a great actor, but because he was not just a make believe hero. I then went on to tell them Audie's story As an Army veteran, what an honor it was to share the legacy of the sort of men our children should learn to appreciate, admire and emulate.

I started hearing about Audie Murphy as a small child. My only brother I never knew was killed in France 1944. I think Mr. Murphy and my brother would have liked each other don't ask me why I just do. I have always been honored to have a brother in the "Rangers" and proud Audie was such a brave and noble man. I was so hurt when he passed. I wanted him to go on with that boyish face that fought for us and made us happy on the screen. I still miss him, and my brother.
