I was raised on Audie Murphy movies. That handsome hero of a man was a favorite of my mother, so I naturally loved him too. I spoke to a VA RN on the phone today (I am an RN and we were both working for a vet who needs care.) She works at the Audie Murphy VA hospital in San Antonio. We were delighted to chat about him. He provided wonderful memories and an honorable role model to so many. Thanks for your site. Added: December 13, 2011

FROM THE TIME I WAS OLD ENOUGH TO KNOW ABOUT WARS AND WAR HEROES, MY FATHER A WORLD WAR II VETERAN HIMSELF AND M MOTHER TOLD ME OF AUDIE. EVERY TIME TO HELL AND BACK WOULD COME ON WE WOULD GATHER AND WATCH THE FILM. DAD WOULD NOT TALK MUCH ABOUT THE WAR , BEING A MEDIC IM SURE HE SAW MANY HORRIBLE SIGHTS AND HE NEVER MENTION MEETING AUDIE BUT IT WAS CLEAR HE RESPECTED HIM AND SAW HIM AS A TRUE HERO. I STILL TO THIS DAY ATAGE SIXTY THREE WATCH TO HELL AND BACK EVERY TIME IT PLAYS AND HAVE READ THE BIOGRAPHY "NO NAME ON THE BULLET" AND AM IN AWE AT HIS COURAGE AND DEDICATION TO DUTY. KNOWING ABOUT AUDIE HELPED ME GET THROUGH MY TOUR IN THE ARMY AND I HAVE TAUGHT MY SON AND DAUGHTER ABOUT AUDIE. I CANNOT ADEQUATELY EXPRESS MY ADMIRATION. I JUST WISH I COULD HAVE MET HIM. When I was a teenager - I read "To Hell and Back" , and then saw the movie. The courage of Mr. Murphy stuck with me thru those years - even now - I'm 65. The images, the battles, the camaraderie. Thankfully as site to honor a world hero, I have visited Audie's grave on many occasions and have also taken my grandchildren to Arlington to his grave And have most of his movies and a copy of his Citation from Pres. Truman
May he rest in peace and be remembered by young and o;d alike Thank you web master for this site
