The first time that I watched ''To Hell and Back'' starring Audie Murphy, I was a teenager, I was not aware that it was a true story. I thought Audie Murphy was simply another Hollywood actor, but he sure wasn't just some run-of-the-mill actor! No, sir.
Audie Murphy had the stuff legends are made of, charisma, in large supply. Simply put, Audie Murphy was the most decorated, or awarded, soldier of World War II, and possibly the most decorated soldier of all time. Grits, guts, intestinal fortitude and pure determination and bravery...these were all qualities that Audie Murphy had. In person, Audie Murphy never lost his humble and honorable qualities, he was not stuck on himself, never conceited.

Audie Murphy makes me proud to be an American. Thank You for your service to our country. Truly an American Hero. It is ashamed we lost him in a tragic way as well as so young. I wish I could have met him.

I watched the movie, "To Hell and Back" for the first time yesterday. I really enjoyed it and was reminded of the sacrifice of those who served and those who gave their lives for our country. My dad is a World War II Navy veteran and I am so very proud of him and thankful for him and his life. My family is blessed to still have both of our parents living and still pretty healthy. I mentioned watching this movie to my dad and that started a conversation about some of his memories serving on the Pacific front of WW II. He never really talked about his Navy days much when I was growing up but he shares stories now, especially if I ask him questions about it. We are blessed to live in this country!!!

My Dad was a World War II veteran who told me about Audie Murphy. Audie was my Dad's hero as well as mine. With my Dad's encouragement, and Audie's heroism, I enlisted in the Air Force. On this Memorial Day, I remember Audie Murphy who will always be my hero. Thank you, Audie, for your courage and your devotion to service and sacrificing your life for our freedom. God bless you.

My introduction to Audie Murphy came from a drunken drill sergeant on CQ at Fort Knox, KY in 1975. I have learned much about Lieutenant Murphy from sober sources. I was moved to look up and refresh my memory after watching the story of a very humble MOH recipient, on the CBS 60 Minutes Program. Ironically he hails from Greensboro, KY. I posted on my Facebook page with a photo of LT Murphy and the following words:

One among tens of thousands of heroes become famous. For a generation Audie Murphy represented the others.

Getting ready to watch To Hell and Back again. While other young teenagers had a crush on Ricky Nelson and Elvis, mine was on Audie. Still is! I was sad to hear of Pam's passing but she stayed true to who she was. A hell of a family the Murphy's.

I think Audie Murphy has been looked over since his death. I think his portrait needs to be in the Smithsonian Institute because he more than any other person deserves to be there.
