I've watched several Audie Murphy western films today and realized what a great actor he was. It seems to have come natural to him.
I agree that most people today have forgotten the acts of heroism he performed during WWII. Could such a man exist today and receive such widespread adoration and acknowledgement as he did in his time? I wonder...
Rest in Peace knowing you are well remembered by many.

Audie Murphy was my childhood hero and favorite western actor before I even knew he was a real hero. When the "To Hell and Back" came out, I realized he was a real life hero. I remember the day he died because I was actually working for a roof truss and wall panel plant as a Sales Manager and my boss, who owned our plant, heard about it right away and shared the information with all of us. I couldn't believe he passed that way after all he had been through and it saddened me greatly. I probably only got into the Marine Corps because of his being turned down because I too was short at 17 years of age, although I had a growth spirt in boot camp. God Bless Audie Murphy and all who love this country as he did.

Fascinating man, I stumbled across his name reading about Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. I’m very happy I researched a little bit further. Makes me proud to be an American.
