I was serving in the Army in Vietnam when Audie Murphy died. I was an infantry lieutenant. He was an amazing soldier and a true hero in so many way.

I was infantry company commander at Ft. Lewis, Wa where parts of To Hell and Back were filmed. I watch this amazing story from time to time and go out of my way to tell people, especially young people, about him and his sacrifices.

His friends who died around him in the year of my birth, 1945, did not have the 76 years of life that I have had. I hope my actions and words have paid good tribute to them as well.

I've befriended childhood friend and playmate of the Murphy boys when they lived in Farmersville TX. John Curington, who became personal atty for HL Hunt, told of a time the boys were having BB gun fights and he hit Audie right between the eyes at the bridge of his nose. One of the boys mother had to dislodge the BB with a spoon, leaving the indentation seen in photographs. I told Mr. Curington I was grateful he didn't hit him in the eye and blind him, or we would be speaking German or Japanese, rather than English.

I love watching Audie Murphy's movies. My dad had gotten me interested in them after we got satellite tv. Very handsome and a very good actor. Such a short life for such a great man!

I’ve been a fan of Audie for years and enjoy his movies as often as possible. He co-starred with so many oscar winners in his career and more than held his own, always enjoyable to watch. He had a very successful career and a life, that ended way to soon. RIP Audie .

I've known about Audie since I was a little girl since my Dad served in WWII. He was in another theater of the war. Not in European. He was in CBI & flew as a crew member in the Flying Tigers. I greatly admire Mr Murphy. He must have been a very courageous man. I wish there were more like him for our youngsters to look up to. May God rest his soul & grant him peace.
