I'm a retired Marine officer, work in Greenville, TX and visited the Audie Murphy American Cotton Museum. I've read his auto biography, and watched several of his films, and I'm always interested in history and the great America hero's who shaped our great nation. Added: July 26, 2021

As a youngster, my idol was not Roy or Gene, but Audie Murphy. I grew up to spend 10 years active duty in the U S Army, in CONUS, RVN, and USAEUR. In Viet Nam, I was an RTO(shoot the guy with the radio first)with a recon platoon. Audie's devotion to duty, to those he served and to those he led were always my motivation to succeed when things got 'dicey'. I am glad that he lived and wish he had lived much longer. I've always enjoyed watching his movies with my dad. On Father's Day this year they were playing one movie after another, I didn't know why at the time, (it was his birthday) but I was so happy to see them. I remember when my son was at basic training in Ft. Benning, Georgia and we went to the infantry museum and my son told me all about Audie Murphy. Though he is sorely missed, I'm glad that he doesn't have to see the country he fought so valiantly for going to Hell in a handbasket. God Bless our military! Added: July 14, 2021

Audie was raised within one mile of my chilhood farm at Lane, Tx just 5 miles west of Celeste, Tx. My father was a little older than Audie back then but knew him and his family. My father later became a WWII veteran himself. I heard many stories about Audie as I was being raised in Lane in the 60s & 70s. I remember attending the Memorial they hosted for Audie at Celeste High School shortley after his death. My opinion is that there should be an Audie Murphy Memorial in Washington D.C. similar to the new Dwight Esinenhower Memorial. An intestering little known fact is that Murphy & Eisenhower were born just a few miles apart in Texas. Added: July 3, 2021
