My father served in the navy spending a lot of time in the south pacific during WW11, specifically on Guadalcanal at Henderson's Airforce Base. I know quite well what took place both in Europe against Germany and in the Pacific against Japan. My wife is from Ralston, Washington who honored a medal of honor recipient born there. His name is Reinhardt Keppler who served in the navy. It is sad and tragic that our country no longer honors those who served in the military so that we can be a free nation. Today marks the 80th anniversary of Pearl Harbor being bomb, and the media does not honor this day. Most young people are ignorant of US history and what made our country great.

Amazing site. So happy I stumbled upon it. In this era of "toxic masculinity " I yearn for the conception of a true male

My Movie & real life Hero all into one, I was 12 yrs old when I heard of his death, felt like I lost someone in my family & I remember asking Dad if the Germans shot down his plane? i think I needed someone to blame really, But I also remember about maybe a yr before this I wrote a letter to him, or should say thought I wrote to him anyway at the time from an address book of your fav stars from ad in a comic book, but I did get his pic with it signed best wishes, Wow I was the happiest kid on earth that day, I remember taking it to school showing everyone even my teacher, & I still have it today, to me at the time it came right from Audie"s hand, licked, sealed, & posted by him,& even today when I see his movies something takes me back to my childhood still get that feeling I would get when a kid,Thank you Audie for making my childhood a little happier & leaving me with great memories today, RIP my friend, you are still loved & always will be,
