My Daddy was a World War II veteran. We watched all of Audie Murphy's movies together. Daddy spoke so highly of him. We should never forget his bravery, dedication and love for his country. I just watched "To Hell and Back" again. I've seen it so many times, I've lost count. He will never be forgotten. Audie Murphy was a hero and a great American.

I visited the VA Hospital in San Antonio. There was a poem written by Audie in a display case. Dusty old helmet, dusty old gun, they sit is a corner and wait (or something like that). The poem moved me. We must remember his courage and keep him alive in our memories.

The fact that Audie Murphy accomplished so much before he was 20 years old alone is amazing. That he became an actor of such wonderful talent on top of that is also amazing. The first time I saw him in a movie, I was a fan and smitten. He was so good looking and seemed so down to earth. I did not know before reading this article that he had suffered from post traumatic stress. This is the first I had heard about this. What a shame that he passed on so young. I'd like to know more about his early childhood and his family.

My father in law fought with Audie Murphy. We have been trying to find out why there is difference between the depiction of Thompson in the book vs. the movie. Thompson in the book is young like Murphy. Thompson in the movie is older. We were wondering if the character Thompson in the book represented a composite of several soldiers Audie Murphy served with.
