I served in the 3rd Infantry Division in the early 80's when division HQs was in Wurzburg, Germany. My mother was a big fan of his and I was familiar with his story but I remember when you walked in the main doors to division HQ at the top of the wide stairs, the whole wall was a picture of Audie in uniform with all his medals. It made me proud to walk around with the same patch on my shoulder that he had worn on his. There will never be another Audie Murphy. Happy 4th of July my fellow "Dogface soldier". I was in the Unit he was in, 3rd Infantry Division. I served in that Division form 1995 to 1997. I learned a lot about Audie Murphy while in that unit. I always strived to be the best Soldier I could be, Audie Murphy was and still is my inspiration while I was in the Army and as a civilian, "NEVER GIVE UP!!!" I grew up watching Audie Murphy in my childhood and ever since anytime his movies are on. It was in my mid teens that I found out he was a real war hero and that he had died so young.
