My stepfather who served in the Army during WW II didn't talk much about his wartime experiences. But, when he did, he spoke reverently about Audie Murphy and his amazing valor.

MY MOTHER, MILDRED PARRIS TOMPKINS WAS BORN AND RAISED IN FARMERSVILLE, TEXAS. SHE NEVER MET AUDIE MURPHY, BUT SHE WAS BEST FRIENDS WITH A WOMAN WHOSE BROTHER MARRIED ONE OF AUDIE MURPHY'S SISTERS.
I HAVE BEEN AN AVID ADMIRER OF AUDIE MURPHY SINCE I SAW HIS PICTURE AND READ ABOUT HIM IN LIFE MAGAZINE WHEN I WAS ABOUT 10 OR 12. I SAW ALL OF HIS MOVIES AND MADE A PICTURE ALBUM ABOUT HIM. HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY HERO. :D :!cool: :!cry: :!devil: :!devil: :) :D

Son is hiking the Appalachian Trail. Has instructions to send me pictures from the monument and spend a moment of silence in remembrance of a great American.

I’m just here to honor the man. Audie Murphy you were one of true best of us. I’m a US Army veteran who had the pleasure to know a soldier who won the Audie Murphy Award, and I served for ten years. I hope your memory lives on, because we’ll always need folks like you: one in a million.

I'm a huge ww2 history buff, I also have autism and want to join the military, Audie is an inspiration as he didn't let his shortcomings stop him, I aspire to be like him

There is no greater virtue then Courage, York doesn't come close to Murphy, on the battle field, no one man does! Truth is stranger then fiction, this physically small man, turned down by most branches of our military, in combat was like an Army! There was never anyone like him in the history of America! And, because of his many acts of Courage, he could of easily won two Medals of Honor! Unfortunately,Great men like Murphy, in many cases are not liked by superiors, because they don't measure up! It's sad this Country hasn't done more to Honor this truly Great man! F. Casciaro
