I watched To Hell and Back as a young boy with my Dad (who also lied about his age to enlist in the Navy during WW2). I loved the movie (still do) and really came to appreciate Mr. Murphy after Dad told me about him. I just finished reading To Hell and Back and a biography of Mr. Murphy and I have more respect and admiration for him now than ever before. A true hero who never wanted notoriety and knew the true heroes were those who didn't come home. I sincerely hope Mr. Murphy found the peace he deserved. :D

Sad that with the passing of Woody Williams we have lost the last of Audie's particular breed. May their type of hero somehow come back to us -- we need them badly at this trying hour.

I was born in Texas in the general vicinity of Murphy's birthplace. My aunt went to school with Murphy before she married. I've watched Murphy's movies since I was a child. My mother introduced me to them. I always admired the soldier and enjoyed the actor!
