In todays world, where anyone who does their job is considered a hero, it is good to remember that "true" heroes like Audie Murphy exist. Those who go above and beyond the call of duty, and place the safety and lives of others above their own. God bless you and watch over you Audie.

Audie Murphy will always be a significant part of the American legacy; especially his courage and willingness to face death during the bitter campaigns of WWII. Ironically, Mr. Murphy met death not on the battle field, but on a Virginia mountain.

In 1990, during a walk on the Appalachian Trail I was near the sight of the plane crash that took his life. I recall the feeling of sadness for his untimely death and loss to those who appreciated the man's strength of character and integrity.
