Photographs of Audie Murphy with horses.

Audie Murphy loved horses and was unquestionably one of the best horse-riding actors in Hollywood during his time.

Audie learned how to ride a horse shortly after he arrived at Hollywood at the end of World War II. As his skill with horses developed he took great pride in his abilities. Unlike other actors, when Audie was required to ride, he insisted on riding his own horse while doing his own stunts in as many scenes as the director and studio would allow.

Audie's love for horses led him to own, race, and breed well-known horses. The most notable of all of these was a quarter-horse known as Joe Queen. Audie rode Joe Queen as often as he could in his own movies. Photos of Joe Queen are in this section.

There are other photos of Audie Murphy in several other albums with horses. The ones shown here, however, are those which best show off Audie's love for these wonderful animals he considered to be friends.
