Audie Murphy Inn, Eagle Pass, Tuzla, Bosnia-Herzegovina.
|
On March 9, 2001 the US Army's 3rd Infantry Division dedicated a facility in Bosnia-Herzegovina to the memory and accomplishments of Audie Murphy. Below is a letter sent to Terry Murphy, Audie Murphy's son who is also the Audie Murphy Research Foundation's founder and president.
In his letter, Colonel Barry J. Fowler, the Chief of Staff of the 3rd Infantry Division stated that the reason the 27 room building was built was to provide a comfortable and modern place where people who are visiting the soldiers of the multi-national division could stay.
Colonel Fowler's letter to Terry Murphy is reproduced below. The pictures which were provided with the letter are also displayed at the bottom of this page.
Since the building was erected, the 3rd Infantry Division's and its soldiers soldiers has since redeployed to other areas of the world to perform carry out new missions. It is not known what the status of this building is since their departure from Eagle Pass but it is hoped the building remains intact and the name it was originally given is still proudly displayed.
If you have any information regarding the current status of Audie Murphy Inn and can provide an update on this building, please contact the webmaster at rlrod@msn.com. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Dear Sir:
It is my distinct privelege to provide to you some information and photos of a recent dedication of a magnificent
building dedicated to the memory of Lt. Audie Murphy in Multinational Division (North), Bosnia-Herzegovina.
On March 9, 2001, we, as part of Stabilization Force, dedicated a newly refurbished building that is now part of
our visitors lodging facilities on Eagle Base, Tuzla. The building provides a comfortable place for visitors to stay
while they visit the hard working soldiers of Multinational Division (North).
The two-story Audie Murphy Inn is a 4,700 square foot, 27-room facility that includes all the amenities of a
quality guesthouse. The project took only 4 months to complete from inception and yielded a professional looking
facility befitting of this memorialization. We hope you can see by the enclosed photos that this structure is truly a
magnificent accomplishment.
We are honored to now have a building named after one of our great American heroes, Lt. Audie Murphy, and hope that as
visitors read Lt. Murphy's narrative (sign located on front lawn) they will reflect on the selfless sacrifice, dedication
to mission, and duty ethic of this heroic Marne soldier.
Thank you for allowing me to share this information with you and I hope you see that we strive to embody the spirit of
those heroes who preceded us. They leave for us a legacy of excellence for all soldiers, past, present, and future.
Respectfully Yours,
/------ Original Signed ------/
BARRY J. FOWLER
COL, US Army
