Texas Senate Concurrent Resolution 4 Directs State Flags to be Flown at Half Mast

WHEREAS, The most decorated hero of World War II, Audie Murphy, has lost his life in the crash of his private plane; and

WHEREAS, The exploits of the young Murphy, who entered the United States Army when barely 18, are almost legendary; he was awarded the nation's highest military honors, the Congressional Medal of Honor and the Silver Star, as well as being commissioned on the battlefield and receiving other awards and medals; and

WHEREAS, The death of this citizen-soldier is a great loss to the entire nation, but particularly so to the State of Texas which claims him as a native son; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 62nd Legislature, 1st Called Session, the House of Representatives concurring, deem it appropriate that all Flags on State Buildings be flown at half-staff through Sunday, June 6, 1971, in tribute to Audie Murphy, a notable Texan who served the cause of liberty and democracy in the greatest traditions of heroism.
